Free to Air Commissioning Opportunity

This is an opportunity for a London-based artist to produce a major new film, video or digital media work to be commissioned and produced in collaboration with Film and Video Umbrella during 2010. The work will be staged at two London venues during the Autumn, alongside a screening programme and other contextual activities. The work will also go on to be exhibited at further UK venues as part of Film and Video Umbrella’s UK-wide programme of touring exhibitions.

The commissioned artist will be offered an artist’s fee.

Illumini presents: Crypt-mas

Applications are invited from artists of all disciplines, working in illumination. If your work glows or lights up in any way, we want to here from you. The theme is alternative Christmas; this can be broadly investigated and is left wide open for your creativity and imagination.

Crypt-mas will be a free alternative Christmas art experience, in December 2010, for all ages, created inside a subterranean labyrinth. The venue is a dark underground church crypt, with alcoves and arched ceilings, the fantastic setting and atmosphere, for an alternative Christmas grotto. Including children’s workshops and Illumini’s very own futuristic Santa (art Installation)

Illumini Event, Sep 2008, attracted over 3,000 people on its opening night and 7,145 guests during its two weeks. Artist’s from professionals-students gained commissions, sales and major press coverage and interviews through Illumini. We take promotion very seriously and have a great track record with our featured artists. Illumini promotes artist from any background and at any stage of their career.

The Royal Watercolour Society invites artists to submit works to the 2010 competition [formerly known as the 21st Century Watercolour Competition]

Celebrating its twelfth anniversary, this open competition is a passionate celebration of watercolour as a vibrant medium for the 21st century. Unlike other painting competitions, the Royal Watercolour Society Open Competition identifies and supports artists of any age and is not prescriptive about size or subject matter. It is also a celebration of the water-soluble medium.  All works produced in water based mediums, watercolour, acrylic and gouache are eligible.  Work can be sent in from artists worldwide, and there are 13 regional pick-up points around the UK, bringing submissions to Bankside Gallery in February.

The aim of the competition is to encourage innovation in the use of water-based media on paper and to stimulate fresh approaches to what are considered to be watercolour’s traditional strengths. Successful submissions will be exhibited at Bankside Gallery, London, from 19 February to 11 March 2009 and successful applicants will be invited to apply for election to the Royal Watercolour Society.

Important information

• Artists are invited to submit up to three framed and glazed water-based paintings on paper.
• Application Form deadline is 13th January 2010
• Entry is £10 per work or free to full time students.
• Send in dates are Saturday 13th and Sunday 14th February 2010 11am – 6pm.
• Work will be selected on Monday 15th February

Artists, individuals and groups from across Cheshire are invited to put forward designs for Chester’s very own mass participation public art programme.

Rhino Mania is a celebration of arts, culture and the environment brought to you by Chester Renaissance who has collaborated with Wild in Art – the team who brought Go Superlambanana and Go Penguins to Liverpool.

From early July – for ten weeks – herds of rhinos, evocative of fun, creativity and self expression – will form a trail around the cultural and retail quarters, creating a ‘stampede’ to act as the visual centerpiece to highlight Chester’s extraordinary cultural offer.

Rhino Design and Artwork
Design proposals can be in any art form – from traditional to new media, from sound and video installations to poetry and photography. Designs should be appropriate for public display and family audiences. Designs that are overtly religious, political or sexual in nature will not be accepted.

Deadline and Fee

Deadline for design submissions: Friday 29th January 2010

The portfolio of submitted designs will be presented to sponsors in March 2010. Artists whose designs are commissioned will be paid an honorarium of £800 on completion of artwork.
